Default Wiki Tutorials?

As I was reading the various posts here I saw one by Phoenixus that talked about some general techniques he uses for painting the terrain. I then thought that it would be cool if he could write up a tutorial about what he does (since his areas always look so nice) so that the rest of us can learn from him and improve the look of our modules.

A few days later and I am writing this to see if we should have a tutorial section on the FRW wiki that has articles and tutorials from FRW members on how to make modules? The other option is that we can put them here on the citadel and link from the FRW wiki to here.

So, anyone interested in doing this? It does require time that many would probably prefer to spend making the module. So I totally understand if this is not the right time to do it. =)

Actually this is a pretty good idea. However, Sty, I think that we have a section of the Citadel proper devoted to handling this sort of thing already. Now that said, I see no reason that those tutorials couldn't go in the 'appropriate' place and then have the links placed into the wiki, or vice versa for that matter.

So, those of you who got the skills, please make notes of how you do what you do. If you don't wish to spend all your time writing out a tutorial, then I would be willing to collaborate as the writer as long as the materials themselves were properly noted and I had the ability to contact you via email or phone to make sure that what I write is an accurate reflection of the process and it's in's and out's.

regards,

As I was writing the post I remembered that we do have an area here at the citadel just for this thing. At the moment I think people only see this site as a location of a set of forums and that's it. I am not sure how many people see the front page of the site - most probably have direct links here. Of course, this is all my opinion with no real data to back it up. =)

So if we put tutorials here, which I am all for, then I believe we need to gently persuade people that this site is more than just forums but truly what I think Papermonk was aiming to have it as. =)

I think we could have a tutorial section on the Wiki in a public area, and then just place links back to those tutorials.

There is also the matter of writing tutorials for FRW specific stuff. For instance, Xandurpein and I will be writing a tutorial or tutorials for using the soon-to-be-released persistent companion system. These should definitly go on the FRW Wiki.

Absolutely right Niah. If there is an FRW specific tutorial, then, by all means, it really does belong in the FRW Wiki and then we can place a link to the wiki tutorials for the FRW specific stuff in the links and the tutorials section of this site.

By the same token, there is value in adding links to the Tutorials section from the FRW Wiki to the tutorials and guides section of the Citadel site, for the sake of doing what Styraxian said, showing that we are more than just a site for module ideas and this specific project.

I will say that this particular area of the Citadel is getting the most attention and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, I see it as a good thing. However, as time goes by, we (I mean official Citadel Staff) are going to have to make sure the Citadel Project encompasses it's own ideals within the parameters of what this site was meant to be in totality.

Meanwhile, you folks keep up the great work. You are certainly impressing the heck out of me (not hard, perhaps in the short run, but I do have a pretty high bar to measure in the main) and I see the work that is being carried out in the FRW area as seminal to the tag line, "More than just custom content."

Default Tutorials

Good points, Dunnite. We can put general tutorials in the appropriate place on the Citadel and then just link back to FRW Wiki if they are relevent. As for FRW specific tutorials, we'll keep those on the FRW Wiki.
